What These Share
The exemption is the deliverable
A release that masks the right regions but cannot say under which statutory basis has not answered the request. Codes are applied as the redaction is made and printed on the released record.
One request spans several formats
A single FOIA request routinely covers body camera footage, dispatch audio, an email thread and a scanned incident report. Handling them in one system is what keeps the deadline reachable.
The original has to survive
An appeal against a withholding is decided against the unredacted record. Redaction produces a new rendition and the source is retained by default.
Somebody will ask who did what
Every action is recorded with user, email address, IP address, local date and time, and event, from ingestion through to disposition.
How a Release Package Is Produced
Intake
The request's files arrive together whatever their formats, so footage, dispatch audio, an email thread and a scanned report are one job rather than four.
Detect
Faces, plates, screens, spoken PII and written identifiers are found automatically, with a framework selected so coverage can be reported against it.
Review
An officer confirms or corrects each detection before anything is burned in. Nothing releases on the model's word alone.
Code
The statutory exemption is applied as the redaction is made and drawn onto the mask, so the released file states its own basis.
Export and report
The redacted rendition is produced, the original retained, and the redaction record exported as CSV for the release package.
Redaction produces a new rendition rather than a layer over the source, which is what makes it permanent in the released file.
Where This Fits
Disclosure work is rarely one format. Document redaction covers the scanned reports and filings, video redaction the footage, and audio redaction the recorded calls.
